Absence

Absence from School

When your child is absent from school, we are required by law to log the reason for that absence.

If your child is absent due to illness, please take the following action:
Telephone school before 9am to notify us that your child will be absent and why. This is applicable to each day that your child is absent unless a return date has been given given. There is an answer machine in school for you to leave a message if it is before staff are in school to answer the phone.

If your child is absent for a reason other than illness, we must have notification by use of a Leave of Absence form, completed and sent into school for the attention of the Headteacher before the absence.

Please note that Headteachers are no longer able to authorise holiday leave in school time unless there are exceptional circumstances as detailed below.

Leave of absence

Holidays should be taken outside the school term. Children can miss important aspects of work if they are taken out of school.
In conjunction with amendments to the government's policy on granting leave of absence, from September 2013 Headteachers will not be authorising school holidays during term time.

There may be occasions where parents/carers feel that their circumstances are exceptional, being of unique and significant emotional, educational or spiritual value to the child which outweighs the loss of teaching time, or there are other difficult circumstance within the family. A Leave of Absence form is available to download below and each application will be considered individually and may require a meeting with the Headteacher.

If you wish to apply for "Leave of Absence", please return the form to school at least two weeks before you are due to take your absence in order for your request to be considered.
